How You Benefit from Obeying Prophetic Instructions

Prophetic instructions position you to receive what the Lord wants you to have. There is a timeline associated with the given prophetic instructions. What does that mean?  

When the Lord uses someone to instruct you in the ways you should go, it means it is time to move. In order to see the miracle or breakthrough manifested, obedience to the instruction must follow.  

Biblical Examples of Obeying Prophetic Instructions 

Many of you are waiting on a miracle. The manifestation of those miracles is associated with faith and obedience. Let’s take a look at 3 examples of obeying prophetic instructions in the Bible and the miracles that followed. 

Prophetic Instructions Bring Healing 

“After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ‘Go,’ he told him, wash in the Pool of Siloam (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing… He replied, The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”—John 9:6-7, 11 

In this example, Jesus knew that the miracle of sight would come when the man obeyed the instruction.  Jesus set the stage and gave the blind man an unlikely tool to be used in the act of healing, which was mud.  

The blind man didn’t hesitate. He got up and went to wash right then. Had he waited, the miracle would have been delayed. However, because of his obedience, others were able to see the “works of him who sent me (Jesus)” (John 9:4).  

Obeying Prophetic Instructions Did 3 Things… 

  1. Displayed the works of God.   
  1. Healed a man, and his eyes were opened—spiritually and physically.  
  1. Allowed the man to tell others of Jesus’ healing power.  

Prophetic Instructions Bring Protection 

“Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.”—1 Timothy 1:18-19 

Timothy, often referred to as young and timid, was also persistent about leaning on God for his strength and protection. The Apostle Paul sent Timothy out on a mission. He knew that on that mission, there would be intense persecution.  

Timothy needed to obey and believe so that the enemy couldn’t use his inexperience or timid nature against him.  

In the passage above, you see Paul reminding Timothy of the prophecies made about him. These prophecies involved instructions to “battle well, holding on to the faith.” The prophetic instructions needed obedience on Timothy’s part, to come to pass. Had Timothy given up, decided to walk away, or rejected the truth, the protection of God would’ve been lifted.  

Obeying Prophetic Instructions Did 3 Things… 

  1. Provided protection for the battles that would come.  
  1. Reminded Timothy of the abundant outcome of saved souls that would be on the other side of the battles.  
  1. Reminded us that battles will strengthen our faith.  

Prophetic Instructions Bring Provision 

“Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”—2 Kings 4:3-5, 7 

The story of the widow’s olive oil is divine teaching on the urgency to follow prophetic instructions. Had the widow not swiftly followed the instructions of Elisha, her two boys would’ve been carried off as slaves (2 Kings 4:1).  

Elisha knew that the woman’s debts would be paid on the other side of her obedience. The widow was in despair, brought to a place where she “cried out” to the prophet for instruction.  

How often do you “cry out” for instruction in the midst of your pain? There is a benefit to asking for prophetic instructions just as much as obeying them.   

Obeying Prophetic Instructions Did 3 Things… 

  1. Allowed the widow to take an active role in the miracle. 
  1. Allowed the widow to trust God completely for her provision. 
  1. Shows us the need to follow the instructions swiftly. 

The Takeaway 

God, of course, has the power to… 

  • Heal you in an instant. 
  • Protect you from every battle. 
  • Give the finances needed to release you from debt instantly. 

However, this was not in line with the prophetic instructions. Had the events written about in the Bible passages above been given no prophetic instructions, the benefits would’ve been lost. There would be no displaying of God’s glory for others to see, no faith that encouraged, and no victory in the battles.  

Obedience is a form of worship. When we follow prophetic instructions, we are saying we do not worship our comforts and convenience, we worship the God who provides, protects, cares, heals, restores, and loves us. 

These aspects of worship are so much greater than the comforts and conveniences we can imagine.  

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”—Ephesians 3:20 

This is the purpose of obeying prophetic instructions. When we follow, we display trust, and God is glorified.  

As a result  

  • Healing is released. 
  • Protection is placed around you. 
  • Provision is given.  

The obeying prophetic instructions connect you to the God that will release divine positive change in your life that will last.  

Don’t underestimate the power of prophetic instructions. They are released to build up, encourage, and comfort the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 14:13).  

Hebrews 12:11 tells us that instruction and discipline may seem unpleasant at the time, but later they produce a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who are willing to be trained by it. Therefore, obeying prophetic instructions will take us out of our comfort zone and increase our faith, making way for miracles.
